Case Study: NAFI Summit 2023

Excellence in flight instruction.

The National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) provides valuable resources to all flight educators. For over 50 years, it has been committed to its mission of raising and maintaining the professional standing of flight instructors in the aviation community. To herald its inaugural summit, NAFI reached out to Cosmic Designs to create an event website that would wow its members and draw in new sponsors, exhibitors, and presenters alike.

The Challenge

For this project, time was our most limited resource. In just under three weeks Cosmic Designs would plan, wireframe, scaffold site copy, incorporate revisions, stage, test, and launch a robust web experience.

Our Solution

We crafted a website that would stand out from the pack while paying homage to NAFI’s branding. We paired bold design and clear messaging with thoughtful navigation to guide all visitors through the web experience.

The Summit site launched on March 1st, 2023 and was able to immediately act as a focal conversation tool for NAFI’s leadership when consulting with prospective sponsors. Within the first week of launch, donations rose and interest climbed.

Research & Process

  • Flow and Functionality

Cosmic Designs kicked things off with a series of wireframes and sticky-notes, framing the core elements of the web experience and charting the ideal flow for the different visitors of this website. Members looking to learn more and register. Presenters interested in adding their voice. Exhibitors seeking to promote their brands. Sponsors wishing to contribute. Volunteers willing to provide assistance.

  • Adaptive Design

Cosmic Designs knew this website could have the potential to serve as a digital program, aiding Summit visitors as they planned and experienced their days. Thus, this website would need to be particularly mobile-friendly and fast-loading. A fully responsive experience was an absolute must.

  • A Multi-Phase Launch

This would be a website that would launch in stages as the Summit drew closer. Cosmic Designs approached this project with a fluid mindset, planning for the wide scope while simultaneously envisioning how the core experience would behave on launch day.

Results

  • Met tight turnaround and launched phase one within 20 days.
  • Increase in sponsorships, exhibitors, and presenters.
  • Greater visibility within the community.
